This year has seen a lot of arrows added to store floors and other locations. This gave me the idea to add a worksheet that involved following arrows in some way, so I developed a fairly simple one on the place value worksheets page for building a number and including the thousands separators.
There are only two versions of this worksheet: one where the grid of numbers is in order from 1 to 9 and one where the grid is mixed up. Either version simply asks students to start at the circled number and follow the arrows to build a number and to include the thousands separators. It is probably a little more interesting than just adding thousand separators to a given number.
I’m sure there are other applications for following the arrow worksheets, such as adding the numbers along the path in your head or counting how many of something you encounter along the way. If you have other ideas, leave a comment.
